The Power Beneath Our Feet
Origin Green — Rothco
About this project
Commissioned by the Irish government's Origin Green sustainability initiative, The Power Beneath Our Feet is an aerial portrait of Ireland directed and shot by Olivier Staub, connecting landscape, agriculture and human development into a single living system. Shot with 35 hours of helicopter footage, Staub moves beyond postcard imagery to find a cinematic, distinctive perspective on the country from above. Produced for agency Rothco Dublin in collaboration with Great Guns.
Director's Statement
This film was the culmination of a beautiful experience. Commissioned by the Irish government, The Power Beneath Our Feet was created to raise awareness around sustainable development and invite a different way of looking at Ireland. My instinct was to approach the country from above, but not as a postcard. I wanted the aerial images to feel distinctive, cinematic and connected to something deeper than landscape. With 35 hours of helicopter footage, generous weather and a strong collaboration between production and agency, the film became a portrait of Ireland as a living system, where nature, agriculture and human development are part of the same movement.
